• Our aim

The motto of the sheep breeding project is “HELP for SELF – HELP”. Young girls are given a sheep for which they have the responsibility and must take care of. After a year the sheep is sold and the income is of benefit to the girl so that she can buy another sheep and finance her schooling.

  • The problems and measures taken

The sheep – breeding project was introduced to reduce the familie's (of school age children) dependancy on sponsorships and to ensure schooling by their own means that are won by bringing up a sheep. Moreover the raising of a sheep increases the child sense of respnsability and its self – esteem and that of their families.

    •  Phase 1: A chosen girl receives all the school material that it needs to start school. On the one hand we think that it motivates the parents to send their child to school on the other it motivates the girl to go to school.

    •  Phase 2: Two months after the girl has started school a sheep is placed at her disposal. The girl with the help of her mother has to feed and take care of the lamb. The project pays for the necessary veternary means.

    •  Phase 3: After 10 – 12 months that lamb is fully grown and is sold.

40% of the money is used for the costs of a new lamb and 60% is invested in school material for the girl.

At the moment the schooling of 312 children is supported by the sheep – breeding project. Pictures of the sheep – breeding project and some of the children that take part in it can be found here.

The sheep – breeding project is a great success as only two children had to repeat a school year due to long illness.
